THE JESS FRANCO DVD POLL BEGINS!

To the blog readers:

With another year upon us I thought a constructive thing to do would be to conduct a readers poll of which Jess Franco titles they most want on DVD. The titles are listed on the sidebar to the left. You may have to page down a bit.

You can vote for more than one film. The ones with the most votes by the end of January 2008 will be placed in another poll to ascertain which one or two would be the most desired.

Be aware that several major DVD companies regularly track this blog and are watching the results. Here's a way to possibly have a say in what may appear in the future.

I may add a few more titles as we go along.

I can't guarantee they'll be on Blu-ray or HD, but please specifiy your preferred format and specs [use the comment function for these].

I keep getting emails from readers and hearing complaints on messsage boards, now here's a chance to do something.

Thanks for your continued interest and participation.

See I voted for SADIST because they could make a huge four disc set out of it. We could have SADIST and EXORCISM and the X rated version all in one box along with a disc of extras with interviews and what not. It would be the best Franco box set of all time.

That would be interesting, Doug. The hardcore version of EXORCISM may pose a problem, though. It looks like LORNA THE EXORCIST has jumped into a early, wide lead over the others.

Excellent poll. Honestly I would like to see all of those titles hit here in the States. I would love to see CELESTINE as well. It's a personal favorite and I think it contains some of Lina's best and most surprising work...Great poll.

Thanks for your comments and participation, Jeremy. It would be very good to have ALL of these available. Actually, I wanted to add more to the list. It will be interesting to track the volume of interest, which is think is what most DVD companies are interested in. At least this is more fun for me than the Presidential Primaries!

Polls are fun. I voted for Lorna myself but I have no format preference as far as Blu-ray/HD goes since I can't play either. I just want the movie released on DVD in widescreen with lots of juicy extras!

I agree with Cinebeats!!! regular dvd format for me too.. Is there still a rights issue on this title??

Cinebeats, thanks for your participation and comments. I actually wanted to add two more titles but made a posting error. I was wondering about the new formats since it's now looking if Blu-ray might come out on top. I don't know if I want to make an investment in one or the other.

Scott: I had heard that LORNA was in negotiation or at least that the right's holder had been located, but that was a year ago. It would depend on elements. I assume someone has good ones since older films are being found in terrific condition. Some Franco films, though, appear to be lost, like LA COMTESSE PERVERSE.

NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF (RETURN OF THE WOLFMAN / THE CRAVING / EL RETORNO DEL HOMBRE-LOBO) - 1980 Dir. Paul Naschy Filmed in the real castles of Spa... more >>>

This Paul Naschy double bill is now available on Blu-ray disc at Xploited... I never thought I would be seeing Naschy films on Blu-ray or HD!

I'm waiting until one or the other format wins and then, with the amount of DVDs I already own, will probably ignore them for years to come. Unless they stop making regular DVDs which would, in my humble opinion, suck. Blu Ray and HD could be the laserdisc of the new generation.

I voted for LORNA as well, though I'd also love to see THE MIDNIGHT PARTY and GEMIDOS DE PLACER out on SD DVD (until I can afford Blu-Ray). Well done on a wonderful blog!

That could happen, Doug. Blu-ray seems to be a bit better from what I've seen and some of the majors are committing to it. But it all could go bust if people don't buy it. Regular DVDs should be with us for a long time. I hope.
