HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY, JESS FRANCO!

Uncle Jess watches the show in EUGENIE (1970).

I would like to thank Jess Franco for the countless hours of viewing pleasure his films have given me over the years. He has made in the vicinity of 200 films over 6 decades and is still at it! And he does it in his own special way.

Some of my personal favorites include:
NECRONOMICON (1967)
LA COMTESSE NOIRE (1973)
THE DIABOLICAL DR. Z (1965)
LORNA THE EXORCIST (1974)
EUGENIE DE SADE (1970)

What are your current favorite Jess Franco films?

Just watched GIRL FROM RIO and loved that! Heard that it was a middling film and cannot agree at all. Pacing is superb, and it's a breezy, sunny adventure!
Current favourites:

DR. ORLOFF'S MONSTER
EXORCISME
BLOODY MOON (ahaha, yes - it's very much fun!)
and from more recent ones - LUST FOR FRANKENSTEIN, TENDER FLESH

st watched GIRL FROM RIO

Have you seen the alternate German version, DIE SIEBEN MANNER DER SUMURU? It has a totally different opening with a armoured car robbery not seen in the other versions and a different ending and score. The opening credits feature an Andy Warhol like image of Sumuru fading in and out. I much prrfer this rarely seen version.

Wow, that sounds exciting!
Never heard of that, thanks a lot for the information.

Robert, I've only seen the Blue Underground DVD release of The Girl from Rio, but that German version sounds interesting.
