A Tranquil Scene Study...

This idyllic natural location makes an appearance in at least two Jess Franco films.

Can you identify them?

Certified JF scholars will be able to add the name of the country where this location can be found.

Two films have been correctly named: this location in Sintra, Portugal appears in A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD (1971) and CECILIA (1981). I also think it may appear in the escape scene near the end of WOMEN IN CELLBLOCK 9 (1977). Congratulations to the posters who were correct and thanks to everyone who participated.

And thanks to Eric Cotenas for the screengrab...

I know that one of them has to be A Virgin Among The Living Dead and I do beleive that Jess told me that they filmed that movie in Portugal. I'm drawing a blank on the other flick though.

I know at least one Franco film that uses that lily pond: VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD. If I am not mistaken, that location is in Portugal in a town called Sintra. Anyway, that's my partial answer.

DADA for now....

Doug and Mick are both correct in terms of it being in VATLD and that's it's Sintra Portugal. But there's at least one other JF film in which it appears. Thanks for your answers...

I'd never heard of Sintra before last week but just came across the name in a book of poems by the Portugese poet Fernando Pessoa. One of which starts

At the wheel of the Chevrolet on the road to Sintra
Under moonlight and dream on the deserted road,
I drive alone, slow and easy, and it seems to me
A bit - or I make myself think it so a bit -
That I'm following some other road, some other dream, some other world.

I remember Jess saying how pretty Sintra was. As for the other film, can we have a hint? Is it a common Franco and I'm just missing it?

The beautiful swimming scene in Cecilia - shot to the soothing sound of lapping water

Tom: thanks for the poem which captures the atmosphere of the scene very well.

Doug: It's CECILIA as soundscope has correctly guessed. I also think it may appear in the nature scene near the end of WOMEN IN CELLBLOCK 9.

Soundscope: You are correct, and welcome to the blog.

First thing I thought was The Devil Comes from Asakava, remember at opening scenes at credits....

Yes, it could be the same location. You mean the scene with the flamingos by the pond under the main credit. An d I think it also appears later in that film.
