David Z's Favorite Jess Franco VidArt

My favorite US video cover has to be Wizard's big old Virgin Among The Living Dead. I can't believe that Eurocine could patch in Simon Garth, The Zombie from Marvel Comics (complete with his "S" amulet)...and this one is just psychotropic mayhem all around. It doesn't fit the film, but what the heck?

Ohh the memories!

I remember seeing this video box at a country gas station rental depot near the small countryside crossroads village where I grew up. I knew then that no amount of begging would convince my parents to drive far just to rent that one video that no other store seemed to have, even though my dad did take me to see Barbarella as a kid (my sex life has been twisted ever since). Could there EVER be a film that could match that awesome cover???

A Jess Franco movie at a gas station! That's pretty surreal. Actually, I think most of these WIZARD VIDEO coverrs are probably better than the films themselves. I remember that the WIZARD version of VATLD looked pretty poor and it was the hacked up, optically censored version with those terrible zombie inserts added by Eurocine. Speaking of BARBARELLA, it would have been interesting to see what Jess Franco could have made of it. Vadim had little feeling for the fumetti style. Welcome to the blog...

There's an interesting variation on this cover adorning the Dutch dvd.

Thanks for the addition cover links, Bruno. I have numerous versions of this film from the IMAGE DVD to the MV DVD R to the VSOM compilation to the censored versions, all different?

There's a lot of footage by Rollin and other directors added which clash with Franco's style and I don't like as much. His preferred version is the shortest about 75 m long. I'm going to start a VATLD discussion in the new blog/
